I wrote this poem to honor my son-in-law, Ray Schneider, and to offer support for my children and grandson on the one year anniversary of Ray’s death.

I See You Smiling
By Brenda Surin

When I look into
my Laura’s eyes
I see you
smiling through

Your love
gives her strength
to do all
she needs to do

And though her
heart was broken
the day
you left this earth

she gathers
strength from the
many memories
you lovingly gave to her

She is the woman
you knew her to be
beautiful … brave
so strong

A Mom
to be reckoned with
as she carries
your hopes on

When I look into
my Jared’s eyes
I see you
smiling through

He has your kind heart
sharp mind
humor
your grace

Integrity
love for family
loving heart
Your handsome face

He is becoming
the man you taught
him to be
like the man he knows you were

He is your son
who will fulfill
your dreams
be your legacy

When I look into
my Jeffery’s eyes
I see you
smiling through

You were quite
the team you two
Watching over
all of us

You are the friend
who loved him fierce
his “go big or go home”
Brother

When I look into
my Elizabeth’s eyes
I see you
smiling through

You two were
mischief makers
Giggling and grinning
with each new surprise

She can not speak
about you
without a twinkle
in her eyes

When I look into
a mirror
I see you
smiling through

I feel your love surround me Son
you hug me once again
and promise me
with all your heart …

Every thing will be OK, Mom – every thing will be OK.”
